Racing Point driver Lance Stroll will miss this weekend's Eifel Grand Prix due to an upset stomach, but has not been tested for coronavirus since Tuesday. Bottas on pole, Red Bull closing in, Hulk back in action. It was 24 hours later than planned, but Formula One's return to action at the Nurburgring was worth the wait.
Hulkenberg says Nurburgring call-up 'crazier and wilder' than Silverstone. Nico Hulkenberg was having coffee with a friend in Cologne, an hour's drive from the Nuburgring, when Racing Point asked him to step in for the unwell Lance Stroll at this weekend's Eifel Grand Prix.Leclerc made a solid start in the race. He temporarily passed Verstappen on the opening lap but the Red Bull driver regained the place.
From then one Leclerc was largely untroubled from behind and inherited third when Bottas suffered his puncture. He recovered and set a new lap record three tenths ahead of Bottas for pole position and over a second clear of Verstappen. He resisted Bottas at the start and managed his lead over his team mate throughout the race.
Hamilton backed off in order to make it to the end but his front left tyre failed as well with half a lap remaining. As Verstappen pitted on the penultimate lap Hamilton had a second lead and skilfully nursed his three-wheeled car to the chequered flag.
Ricciardo made some great passes Renault appear to be quicker in the race than they are over a single lap in qualifying and Ricciardo took advantage of that. After qualifying eighth, two tenths of a second ahead of his team mate, he passed Stroll and Norris on the first lap. On the second restart, Ricciardo was passed by Norris, but with four laps to go the Renault driver regained the position. When Bottas and Sainz suffered their punctures he jumped to fourth, equalling his best result yet with Renault.
It allowed Gasly a free choice of tyres, but this advantage was erased by the early Safety Cars. He fell back to 13th but made his way into the points. Over the final four laps of the race, Gasly passed Vettel and Stroll plus the tyre-troubled Bottas and Sainz to finish seventh.
For the second straight race weekend he was eliminated in Q2 and forced to play catch up in the race. His hopes of rising quickly through the field took a blow when he made contact with Magnussen on lap one, putting the Haas driver out of the race. Albon was awarded a five-second penalty which he served during his pit stop on lap He came out of the pits as the last running car and took advantage of fresher hard tyres to finish eighth, 28 seconds behind him team mate.
Making matters worse, his best lap time in Q3 was deleted due to a track limits violation, which meant he started 10th instead of a potential fifth. He never looked like recovering those lost places and ran out of the points for the majority of the race. Gasly eventually demoted Vettel to 11th but following the punctures, Vettel moved up to tenth and at least managed to resist Bottas in the final corners of the race to score a point.
Stroll struggled to find the race pace that Racing Point showed in the first three events of the season and he was out-qualified by both McLarens. He struggled even more in the race and slowly dropped through the order. Stroll was set to finish outside the points but after Sainz and Bottas retired he scored a couple of points in ninth.
He stayed within a couple of seconds of Hamilton for the majority of the race and was set for a solid haul of points in second before a tyre failure dropped him outside the top ten. He got it, but had he stayed out he might have won — assuming his tyres could have lasted until the end.Shekere necklace
Norris out-qualified Sainz and the two McLaren drivers were locked in battle with Ricciardo for the majority of the race. George Russell initially made it out of Q1 but following qualifying he was handed a five-place grid penalty for failing to slow sufficiently under yellow flags — a significant error which left him last.
Antonio Giovinazzi out-qualified Kimi Raikkonen for the third time so far this season but both drivers were out after Q1 and started 16th and 17th. Magnussen started ahead of Grosjean and made a great start until he ran wide at Club and was knocked out of the race by Albon. Grosjean took a gamble during the second Safety Car and stayed out but it backfired and his race was ruined, finishing 16th, and made no friends with his borderline defensive moves on Sainz and Stroll. Daniil Kvyat exited the race on lap 11 when his right rear tyre failed and he hit the barriers hard.It was the fourth round of the Formula One World Championship.Openoffice addon
The race was the first of two consecutive Formula One races at Silverstone with the 70th Anniversary Grand Prix due to follow a week later.
Several Grands Prix were cancelled or postponed after the aborted opening round in Australia, prompting the FIA to draft a new calendar. The British Grand Prix was originally intended to be held on 19 July. Although there had been doubts over whether Silverstone would be able to host Formula One races due to quarantine measures proposed by the British government, hopes were raised again by Prime Minister Boris Johnsonwho, in a statement, said that Formula One should be given an exemption.

However, the 70th Anniversary Grand Prixwhich will also be held at Silverstone next weekend, will by contrast see the C2, C3 and C4 selection used.
This aims to not only create strategic differences between the two races, but also to force the teams to fully make use of practice time on the second weekend, instead of relying on data from the previous week. The idea was instituted after the Mercedes team rejected an alternate plan, for a reverse starting grid to be run on the second weekend.
This session was also red-flagged after Albon spun at turn 15 and collided with the barriers. He was taken to the circuit's medical centre but was later declared fit. Vettel was again forced to miss practice time when a pedal issue restricted his running.
Bottas set the fastest time of Saturday morning practice, followed by Hamilton and Verstappen. Albon was forced to miss most of the session with electrical issues, and Vettel continued to suffer brake pedal problems which curtailed his running on Friday. His Williams teammate George Russell was investigated by the stewards for not slowing down under the consequent yellow flags - he received a five-place grid penalty. Two different strategies were used in Q2, with both the MercedesRed BullsRacing Points and one of the Ferraris — that of Charles Leclerc — trying to get into Q3 the third part of qualifying on the more race-suitable medium compound tyre, and the other teams using the soft compound due to the top ten qualifiers having to start on the tyre used in Q2.
Early on in the session, world championship leader Lewis Hamilton spun at turn 7; red flags were soon waved, since Hamilton had brought gravel back onto the track with him. After the session resumed, Hamilton and his Mercedes teammate Valtteri Bottas set times a second clear of the rest of the field. Lance Stroll in 10th and Pierre Gasly in 11th set the same time, but since Stroll set it first, the latter in his AlphaTauri was consigned to going out in Q2.
As the cars were being sent out, there was an incident in the pitlane between Leclerc, Stroll, and Daniel Ricciardowith Stroll complaining that Ferrari had released their driver in an unsafe manner - the stewards, after investigating the matter, decided no further action was necessary.
In the first set of laps, Hamilton broke the lap record with a Hamilton then broke his own lap record a few minutes later, recording a to secure pole position, and Bottas achieved second place, 0.

Following the singing of the national anthem " God Save The Queen "there was a flyover by a Spitfire with the message "Thank you NHS" painted on the underside of its wings, and accompanied by applause from those present, in recognition of the work done by the UK's public health services in the fight against the COVID epidemic.Verstappen made a move stick into Brooklands to claim the place.

Check out everything you need to know about the F1 restart including full race calendar and TV details below. Like all sports, the F1 calendar took a lockdown-related battering, with numerous races cancelled and almost all remaining Grands Prix rescheduled. The confirmed races are all based in — or close to — Europe, making the complex logistics easier to navigate than the final stretch of the calendar — a world tour ranging from Singapore to Brazil, from Russia to Mexico.
It has been a relatively smooth ride, albeit complex, for Formula 1, meaning the case may build for more races further afield, by which point the progress of the virus may have hopefully slowed. You can watch every practice, qualifying and race session live on Sky Sports F1. This will allow a long off-season, more than enough races in to provide a solid championship calendar, while also minimising risk by not traversing the entire globe in search of race tracks due to double-headers.
It remains to be seen how the season will play out, but you can expect a more familiar calendar now that the peak of the crisis appears to have subsided. There are likely to be plenty more twists and turns before next season comes around, but for now, we can soak up the season in all its modified glory! Related news.
